Nealon, Logan earn SAC awards

-

For the first time in each of their careers, freshmen Sienna Nealon and Caitlyn Logan claimed the weekly Sooner Athletic Conference women’s soccer awards, the conference offices announced on Monday afternoon.

Nealon, a native of Windsor, Calif., was named Offensive Player of the Week after she capped off a tremendous week on Saturday, Sept. 9, when she blasted the game-winning goal in a 3-0 shutout effort of Olivet Nazarene (Ill.). Additionally, she assisted on senior Hannah Poor’s insurance goal in the second half.

Earlier in the week, Nealon scored her first game-winner in John Brown’s 4-2 come-from-behind win at then-No. 16 Cumberland (Tenn.) on Monday, Sept. 4. Nealon ripped a shot off sophomore Hannah Sweaney’s cross from the right wing off a Phoenix defender and in, marking her first collegiate goal.

On Thursday, Sept. 7, Nealon deflected freshman Paige Kula’s corner service in from just two yards away, successfully piecing together a three-match goal-scoring streak, finishing the last seven days with seven points.

Logan, from Charlotte, N.C., earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after racking up 10 saves and allowing just three goals in 270 minutes on 13 shots on goal faced. More impressively, the goalkeeper made a game-saving leap at Cumberland’s to reject a shot that would have knotted the match at two apiece and also made a noteworthy save against Olivet Nazarene early in the match to keep the scoreless draw deadlocked.

After playing four matches in seven days, the Golden Eagles rest until this Friday when John Brown travels to Arkadelphia to take on NCAA Division II Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) at 3 p.m.
