Beever enjoys trip to Pebble Beach.

MOUNTAIN HOME — Siloam Springs’ girls golf team shot an opening day score of 271, but Greenwood was four shots better at 267 and the Bulldogs claimed the 6A-West Conference championsh­ip on the first day of the Class 6A state girls golf tournament at Big Creek Golf and Country Club.

The tournament finished on Tuesday afternoon. Results were not available at presstime.

Greenwood’s Sydnie Gamble shot an opening day 73 to lead the field of competitor­s, followed by Siloam Springs senior Brinkley Beever at 81 and Mountain Home’s Kenzie Collins at 82.

Greenwood’s Jordyn Lane and Lady Panthers junior Kaitlyn Robinson each shot 89. Siloam Springs junior Jaelee Snyder shot a 101, while McKenzie Blanchard shot 105 and Kendall McCormick 130 for the Lady Panthers on the opening day, which doubles as the 6A-West and 6A-East confernece tournament­s.

Mountain Home shot 278 to win the 6A-East Conference Tournament and sat in third place overall, followed by Searcy 290, Benton 311, El Dorado 329, defending 6A champion Jonesboro 330, Sheridan 353 and Lake Hamilton 406.

Beever competes at PURE Insurance Championsh­ip

Brinkley Beever returned to Northwest Arkansas on Sunday after spending several days at the PURE Insurance Championsh­ip out in Pebble Beach, Calif.

Beever flew out to the event last Tuesday and was paired up with golf pro John Cook. They played practice rounds on Wednesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course and then at legednary Pebble Beach Golf Links on Thursday.

Friday they played their first day of tournament play at Pebble Beach and then another round on Saturday at Poppy Hills.

They were tied for 60th going into Sunday, when Beever had to return back to Northwest Arkansas in time for the 6A state tournament.

Beever said the format was best ball and she sank two birdies at Poppy Hills and several pars at Pebble Beach.

Beever also added that on the first day she was there she competed with TV actor Alfonso Ribiero, who played Carlton on “The Fresh Prince of BelAir,” and Matt Ginella, who has a show on The Golf Channel. Beever said she was interviewe­d by Ginella and will be on his show.

Beever said she was glad to get back to NWA, although she wished she could have played Pebble Beach one more time.

“It was amazing,” she said. “So, so cool.
