Frederick Dale “Fred” John, 90, of Siloam Springs, Ark., and former longtime resident of Indiana, joined his Lord Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017. He was born at home Dec. 13, 1926, in Shelby County, Indiana, to George and Geraldine Phares John. He was the oldest son and third of seven children.

A veteran, Fred served in the Army at the conclusion of WWII in France. He was an educator and administra­tor and retired as Superinten­dent of La Porte County Schools.

Throughout his life, Fred was actively involved in his community and church, including serving as Chairman of his church board and President of the La Porte Kiwanis Chapter. He was most recently a member of Community Christian Fellowship in Siloam Springs. He was often busy organizing and recruiting friends and family for everything from local events to excursions across the country.

Fred enjoyed sports throughout his life. He played high school basketball, was a lifelong golfer, and was a loyal fan of IU basketball, Notre Dame football, the Cubs, Cardinals and whatever team his grandchild­ren were playing for. He had a keen sense of humor, kind heart and frequent smile.

Above all, Fred was devoted to his family, often traveling across the country with his wife, Anna, to visit their children or support their grandchild­ren in sports tournament­s or other endeavors.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anna (Gahimer) John; three children, Kathy Laster and husband Jerry of Siloam Springs, Andy John and wife Amy of Jacksonvil­le, Fla., Janis Hentrup and husband Mark of Indianapol­is, Ind.; five grandchild­ren, Kristen Brumbalow and husband David, Kyle Laster and wife Lindsay, Keith Laster, Michael John and wife Danielle, Caroline John; and three brothers, Hugh John, David John and Don John.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Christian Fellowship, 525 S. Lincoln St., Siloam Springs, AR 72761. Arrangemen­ts are with Heritage Funeral Home. PAID OBITUARY
