SWEPCO to begin power grid work

- From Staff Reports

Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) plans to rebuild approximately two miles of 161-kilovolt (kV) transmission line in Siloam Springs.

The need for the project was determined by the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the regional transmission organization responsible for overseeing the electric transmission grid in this area of Arkansas.

These upgrades will strengthen the local electric transmission system.

Residents are invited to attend a SWEPCO come-and-go informational open house on Thursday, Oct. 5, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Siloam Springs Community Building, 110 N. Mount Olive St. in Siloam Springs.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. and visitors can arrive at any time during the open house to learn more about the project, review detailed maps and speak with project representatives.

The project includes replacing wooden poles with steel single-pole structures and new wires, along with upgrading equipment at the Siloam Springs Substation. Work will take place within companyowned easements. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2019 and be completed by summer 2019.
