Join Siloam Springs Regional Hospital for Pink Party Oct. 26
October is breast cancer awareness month, and Siloam Springs Regional Hospital (SSRH) invites ladies in the community to gather girlfriends together and stop by the Pink Party between 3-7 p.m. Oct. 26. This special event hosted by the Healthy Community Advisory Council will feature health and beauty pampering, hors d’oeuvres, prizes, tours of the hospital’s imaging department and a “mammothon.”
“The SSRH Pink Party is all about taking the fear out of mammogram screenings, promoting early detection of breast cancer and celebration of survivors,” said SSRH Marketing Director Rebecca Pearrow. “We’ll have several resources on site to pamper our guests and provide breast cancer education.”
Hors d’ oeuvres will be served in a spa like atmosphere that helps ladies feel more comfortable in the hospital imaging atmosphere and help relieve any anxiety associated with mammograms. There will also be tours of the imaging department to help younger or first time ladies become familiar with the experience as well as the option of on the spot mammogram appointments that evening.
“The mission of the Healthy Community program is to promote wellness, and this is a perfect example of how we can endorse preventive services,” Pearrow said.
All women in the community are invited to attend this free event. Mammography Technicians will be on hand to explain how screening equipment works, walk guests through a typical patient experience highlighting some of the special amenities offered and answer any questions they may have. It can be hard for ladies to find the time to take care of themselves, but mammograms are an essential part of women’s health care. So SSRH is removing barriers by offering discounted rates and after hours appointments. There is a $99 special on mammogram screenings during the month of October that is an all-inclusive price for those who do not have insurance coverage to help with the cost. In addition, extended evening hours are available throughout October as well, making it more convenient to schedule.
“Our goal is to help women feel confident in each step along the way so they have no hesitation or reservations that would prevent them from getting screened,” Pearrow said. “And having a Pink Party is a fun way to give our guests the option of socializing with friends while promoting awareness all at the same time — kind of like positive peer pressure. Ladies who attend the event can even make on-the-spot appointments if they desire. They can register, purchase the October special rate if uninsured, then enjoy refreshments and relax in the mini spa area while waiting.”
Pearrow affirms that, if a lady does not want a mammogram or has already had their recommended screening, they are still encouraged to attend to provide a support network for the Warriors in Pink. Special recognition will be given to survivors as well as resources for those who are currently battling breast cancer along with education and information for prevention and early detection. To add an additional component of fun and support, the SSRH Auxiliary Gift Shop will be open throughout the evening offering a special shopping experience and discounted merchandise.
SSRH offers digital mammography which is a special X-ray of the breasts that can detect lumps and other forms of breast disease that may be too small to be felt even by an experienced examiner.
