Golfers in sev­enth place after first day of 6A state

JONES­BORO — Siloam Springs shot a to­tal of 363 on the open­ing day of the Class 6A state boys golf tour­na­ment at Jones­boro Coun­try Club.

The Pan­thers were in sev­enth place head­ing into the sec­ond day on Tues­day. Re­sults were not avail­able at presstime.

Seven-time de­fend­ing cham­pion Jones­boro was in first place on its home course with a 307, while Greenwood was just four strokes be­hind at 311. With Mon­day’s re­sults, Greenwood also won the 6A-West Con­fer­ence Tour­na­ment, while Jones­boro won the 6A-East.

Ben­ton was in third place over­all at 335, fol­lowed by Texarkana 343, Searcy 344, Mar­ion 351, Siloam Springs 363, El Do­rado 365, Rus­sel­lville 374, Moun­tain Home 382, Sheri­dan 413, Jack­sonville 428 and West Mem­phis 475.

Jones­boro’s Wil Gib­son and Greenwood’s Evan Grif­fith each shot a 74 to lead all in­di­vid­u­als after the first day.

Siloam Springs sopho­more Evan Sauer led Siloam Springs with an 89 on Mon­day, while ju­niors Chase Beyer and Josh John­son each shot 90. Ju­nior Kar­son Clement carded a 94, while sopho­more Luke Baker shot 100.
