Golfers in seventh place after first day of 6A state

JONESBORO — Siloam Springs shot a total of 363 on the opening day of the Class 6A state boys golf tournament at Jonesboro Country Club.

The Panthers were in seventh place heading into the second day on Tuesday. Results were not available at presstime.

Seven-time defending champion Jonesboro was in first place on its home course with a 307, while Greenwood was just four strokes behind at 311. With Monday’s results, Greenwood also won the 6A-West Conference Tournament, while Jonesboro won the 6A-East.

Benton was in third place overall at 335, followed by Texarkana 343, Searcy 344, Marion 351, Siloam Springs 363, El Dorado 365, Russellvil­le 374, Mountain Home 382, Sheridan 413, Jacksonvil­le 428 and West Memphis 475.

Jonesboro’s Wil Gibson and Greenwood’s Evan Griffith each shot a 74 to lead all individual­s after the first day.

Siloam Springs sophomore Evan Sauer led Siloam Springs with an 89 on Monday, while juniors Chase Beyer and Josh Johnson each shot 90. Junior Karson Clement carded a 94, while sophomore Luke Baker shot 100.
