Downtown businesses are kicking off the Christmas shopping season with the annual Holiday Open House from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5.

Around 20 businesses will open their doors on Sunday to help shoppers get in the holiday spirit with specials, door-prizes and refreshments.

“It’s a tradition that a lot of people look forward to every year where they can get a head start on Christmas shopping,” said Kelsey Howard, director of Main Street Siloam Springs.

She described the event as a time for people to get together, have coffee, ice cream or lunch, and support local businesses.

Grand Savings Bank is sponsoring this year’s Holiday Open House, and Main Street and Grand Savings Bank staff will be serving refreshments in the new storefront in between Heather Hill Clothing and the old post office building on Broadway Street (look for balloons). Refreshments will include mini-scones from Cafe on

Broadway, hot cocoa and warm cider.

For each purchase made at participating businesses, customers will earn a chance to win a doorprize. The red door-prize tickets can be turned in at the refreshment table.

Main Street Siloam Springs is also partnering with Bright Futures for a coat drive during the event. Bright Futures is an initiative within the school district to streamline school, community and business resources to meet the basic needs of students, according to the district’s website, www. siloamschools.com. Coats that are new or in new condition can be dropped off at the same location where refreshments will be served.
