JBU blanked at home by South­west­ern Chris­tian

League-lead­ing South­west­ern Chris­tian (Okla.) scored a pair of sec­ond­half goals and the John Brown Univer­sity men’s soc­cer team was un­able to find a re­sponse as the vis­i­tors es­caped Alumni Field with a 2-0 de­ci­sion on Satur­day af­ter­noon.

Matheus Goviea’s 24yard free kick in the 46th minute stood as the game-win­ner, less than two min­utes into the sec­ond half and Alexan­dre De Silva pot­ted an in­sur­ance tally in the 85th minute, hand­ing SCU (14-4-0, 8-2-0 Sooner Ath­letic) it’s first-ever reg­u­lar-sea­son win over the Golden Ea­gles (8-7-1, 4-4-1) in Siloam Springs.

The vis­i­tors out-shot the Golden Ea­gles 15-7 on the match as ju­nior Kelvin Omondi at­tempted three to­wards South­west­ern Chris­tian keeper Caleb Swanepoel. Ju­nior Con­ner Haney had a prime scor­ing op­por­tu­nity in the sec­ond half but couldn’t con­vert, fin­ish­ing with two shots, one on tar­get.

Swanepoel fin­ished the shutout with four saves while se­nior Adam Holt made five saves in the loss.

The loss marked the sec­ond time the Golden Ea­gles have been shutout at home this sea­son.

Prior to the match, JBU hon­ored five se­niors in Marco Car­dona, Con­nor Ge­or­gop­u­los, Steve Teshima, Adam Holt and Collin Smith.

JBU re­turned to ac­tion on Tues­day at Sci­ence and Arts (Okla.). Re­sults were not avail­able at presstime. The Golden Ea­gles will play a Sooner Ath­letic Con­fer­ence Tour­na­ment match on Thurs­day on the road against an op­po­nent to be de­ter­mined.
