Cameron hits milestone
JBU player joins 1,000-point club in win
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Baily Cameron scored a team-high 16 points and hit the 1,000-point milestone for her career, and the No. 12 John Brown University women’s basketball team used 40 bench points to ring up an 80-56 win over Evangel (Mo.) on Saturday evening at the Ashcroft Center.
Shooting 54.1 percent from the floor (33 of 61) and knocking down half of its shots from long range, John Brown (2-1) didn’t score less than 17 points in any quarter, building up a lead as high as 28 points. The host Crusaders (1-2) never held the lead.
Cameron finished the game 7 of 11 from the field and added four rebounds, three blocks and a pair of assists.
Joining her in double-digit scoring was junior Karina Chandra, who rode a 6 of 10 effort to 15 points, and junior Preslea Reece added 10.
The bench comprised 40 of JBU’s 80 points on the evening as all 14 players saw the court and 12 players landed in the scorebook.
Both teams committed 15 miscues in the contest, but the JBU offense made Evangel pay to the tune of 17-9 on ensuing possessions. The visitors also controlled the paint, out-scoring EU, 40-28.
“Tonight was a solid team effort,” head coach Jeff Soderquist said. “Everyone played and helped. We have
a very deep team this year. We also had a great third quarter on both sides of the ball.
“Also, very proud of Baily for scoring her 1,000th point tonight.”

history to eclipse the impressive milestone.

Only one Crusader managed to score more than eight points. Sydnee Garrett hit 11 of 19 from the field and grabbed 12 boards to lead all players with 29 points and 12 boards. The rest of the team combined to finish 7 of 41 (17.1 percent) from the floor.
The Golden Eagles returned to Bill George Arena on Tuesday against Crowley’s Ridge College. Results were not available at presstime.
John Brown will turn around and play the same Evangel team at 6 p.m. on Friday in Day 1 of the John Brown Classic at Bill George Arena. JBU will take on No. 19 MidAmerica Nazarene at 5 p.m. Saturday on Day 2 of the John Brown Classic.
