WSSFD board offices

The West Siloam Springs Rural Volunteer Fire Department has two board offices that are up for re-election. The offices are vice president and treasurer. These offices will be voted on at the West Siloam Fire Department from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5. To have your name placed on the ballot, call Linda Stinchcomb at 479-685-0625 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30. If the call goes unanswered, leave a voicemail with name, office applying for and phone number.

Coat Drive

New and gently used coats and sweaters of all sizes, especially children’s sizes, are being collected for those in need. They will be distribute­d at the clothing give-away at Eastgate Church of Christ from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. Items are also offered to nursing home residents and students at local schools. All coats will be cleaned by Snappy Dry Cleaners. Coats can be dropped off at the office of Dr. Susan Vaughan, at My Family Eye Care, located at 820 Stateline Road in West Siloam Springs, or at Snappy Dry Cleaners located at 618 Holly Street, or at Eastgate Church of Christ located at 1997 East U.S. Highway 412. Vietnam Veterans

In recognitio­n of the upcoming 50th anniversar­y of the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War, John Brown University history professor Preston Jones is collecting memories and stories from local veterans. Dogwood Festival T-shirt Design Contest

The 2018 Dogwood Festival T-shirt Design Contest is now accepting entries. Designs must be single-sided and singlecolo­r ink. Designers may designate a desired t-shirt color if they wish. The deadline for entries is Nov. 30, and the winner will receive a T-shirt and $50 cash. Submission­s may be sent to katelyn@ siloamcham­ber.com.

Stronger Together Meeting

Stronger Together is a support group for progressiv­e-minded people who are advocating a change in the west Benton County region. The group has discussion­s on various avenues to reach this goal and would welcome input. The meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Inn at the Springs, located at 201 W. University Street.

Yoga classes

Bridges to Wellness and the Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring Yoga classes.

Classes will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday nights at the Moss House located at 311 S. Mt. Olive Street. The cost for classes is $3.

Aqua aerobics

Aqua aerobics for women is held every Monday and Thursday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Hub White Pool at the Walton Lifetime Health Complex on the campus of John Brown University. This class meets in the shallow (4 foot depth) end of the pool and is great exercise in a lowimpact environmen­t. Each session is $3 — no preregistr­ation is needed. Friends of the Library Bookstore

The Friends of the Library Bookstore — located in Siloam Springs Public Library — has a great assortment of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, audio books, most priced under $2. Featured are children’s books, a collection of vintage books, and a large section of religioust­hemed and Christian fiction. Signs in the library will guide patrons to the bookstore area which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friends of the Library uses all proceeds from the store to benefit the library, especially the children’s summer reading programs. Donations of used books and electronic media in good condition are always welcomed.

Senior exercise options

The Walton Lifetime Health Complex on the campus of John Brown University is a participat­ing facility for both SilverSnea­kers and Silver&Fit programs. These programs are designed for senior Medicare/Medicaid eligible members and offer a unique blend of physical activity for all. Classes are offered five days a week and are taught by certified instructor­s. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. There also is a class that meets in the indoor pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday called “Splash.” If eligible, a SilverSnea­kers or Silver&Fit membership could be covered by insurance at no charge or for a maximum of $25 a year. Radio Control Modelers

The Siloam Springs Radio Control Modelers is a group of local radio control aircraft flyers who fly all types of aircraft models, including fixed wing, helicopter­s, gliders, multicopte­rs and drones at Allen Field on Waukesha Road in Siloam Springs. The club flies each weekend and Wednesday afternoons, weather permitting. Club meetings are held at the Siloam Springs City Airport in the pilot’s lounge on the first Tuesday of even numbered months. Senior Activity & Wellness Center

The Siloam Springs Senior Activity and Wellness Center, located at 750 Heritage Court, serves lunch daily to seniors 60 and older for a $3 donation. The center has an old-time gospel sing every Tuesday starting at 10:30 a.m. There is a watercolor class every Wednesday. Socializat­ion, Wii bowling & dominoes go on daily. Manna Center Thrift Store

The Manna Center Thrift Store, located behind the Senior Activity Center in Siloam Springs, is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Because new merchandis­e is put out daily, after an item has been in the store for a month it is half price. Also each week the store will have an item that is $1. Mall trip

The Siloam Springs Senior Activity Center goes to Northwest Arkansas Mall in Fayettevil­le every month. Anyone age 60 or over is welcome to ride along for a $5 donation. For informatio­n, call 479524-5735.

Clothing needed

Community Clothing Closet is open during the week from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Gently used children’s toys and clothing are needed. Blankets are also needed. For informatio­n, call 479276-2003.

Openings at Developmen­t Center

The Siloam Springs Adult Developmen­t Center has immediate openings for adults who have been identified as being mentally handicappe­d or who have cerebral palsy, epilepsy or autism.
