Their victory represented one more “first” for the season’s Panther squad. In addition to being champions of their conference for the first time since 1950, the Panthers proceeded past the first round of the state playoffs for the first time since 1950 as well.

According to newspaper files at the Herald-Democrat, the 1950 team managed to advance to the state finals. First, they played Clarksville at a home game in the first round of the playoffs, winning 18-0. The following week, they traveled to DeQueen, where they won 13-12 in the second play-off round. And then, on Dec. 15, the Panthers advanced to the state finals where they lost to Wynn 32-7 in Panther Stadium.
