KCS Holiday Express to visit Siloam Springs
The Kansas City Southern Holiday Express train, with Santa Claus and his elves on board, will be making a stop in Siloam Springs on Sunday.
The train will be at Jefferson Street starting at 4 p.m., Dec. 10.
The Holiday Express train includes six cars and makes stops at communities throughout the
Kansas City Southern’s rail network, according to the company website www.kcsouthern.com.
Guests will be able to walk through three train cars filled with holiday displays and visit with Santa Claus in the caboose. Each child that tours the train will receive a gift bag. The event is free and open to the public, and no tickets are required, the website states.
The Holiday Express was created in 2001 and volunteers dedicated more than 8,000 hours to reinventing the retired rail cars, the website states. The train includes a smiling tank car named Rudy; a flatcar carrying Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village; a gingerbread boxcar; the elves’ workshop; a reindeer stable; and a little red caboose.
At each of the Holiday Express stops, a charitable contribution will be made to the local Salvation Army to provide warm clothes and other necessities to children in need, the website states.
Holland Hayden, city communications officer, said Jefferson Street, from S. Britt Street to Main Street, will be closed starting at 4 p.m. for the event. There will be no access from S. Britt Street north or south of Jefferson, from S. Gunter Street or from Hico Street, she said. Additionally, Britt Street from E. Delaware Street to Jefferson Street, and S. Gunter Street from Jefferson Street to E. Delaware Street will be closed.
