Ninth-grade girls clip Purple in overtime

The Siloam Springs ninthgrade girls basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime and came away with a 35-34 victory over Fayettevil­le Purple on Monday inside Panther Activity Center.

The Lady Panthers (13-6, 5-3 Northwest Arkansas Conference) led 9-6 after the first quarter, but Purple outscored Siloam Springs 12-6 in the second quarter to take a 1815 lead.

Purple remained ahead 27-24 going into the fourth quarter, but Siloam Springs tied the game up 32-32 to send it into overtime.

Julia Jackson hit a 3-pointer early in overtime for what would be the game’s winning points.

Jadyn Still led the Lady Panthers with 10 points, while Jackson had nine, Quincy Efurd seven, Sydney Moorman five and Mia Hevener four.

The ninth-grade boys were defeated by Purple 41-35.

The Panthers (9-10, 2-6) trailed 8-7 after the first quarter but took a 17-16 lead at halftime.

Fayettevil­le rallied for a 3025 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Breck Soderquist led the Panthers with eight points, while Cam Collins had seven. Elijah Coffey, Max Perkins and Solomon Hufford each had six and Jared Clark two.

The ninth-grade teams return to action on Monday, Feb. 12, at Fayettevil­le White.

Eighth grade

The eighth-grade girls picked up a 39-22 victory over Rogers Lingle inside the Panther Den on Monday night.

The Lady Panthers led 14-6 after the first period and 2311 at halftime. Siloam Springs (6-9) took a 26-17 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Hannah Riley led the Lady Panthers with 18 points, while Reina Tiefel had 11. Bethany Markovich had four points, while Grace Arrington, Halle Hernandez and Alexa Maxell each had two.

The eighth-grade boys were defeated by Lingle 2921, dropping the Panthers’ record to 6-9 overall.

Josh Stewart led the Panthers with 10 points, while Brendan Lashley had three, Josh Kooistra, Caden Pharr, Carter Winesburg and Jedidiah Hunter each with two.

The eighth-graders return to action on Thursday at home against Bentonvill­e Lincoln.
