Traffic stop leads to standoff, arrest
A Siloam Springs man has been arrested in connection with a variety of weapons and drug charges after a traffic stop near Gentry turned out to be anything but routine.
Adam Brooks Flores, 27, of 1480 U.S. Highway 43 South in Siloam Springs, was pulled over for a traffic violation on Feb. 17, according to a release by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. Flores allegedly “brandished a firearm and pointed it in Sergeant Xiong’s direction before fleeing by vehicle.”
The release also states Flores fled by vehicle through a field and then by foot before being located by Xiong attempting to
hide in a culvert. After “making threats to harm himself or others,” SWAT and crisis negotiators were contacted. About six hours after the initial traffic stop, Flores “unarmed himself and exited the culvert at the direction of negotiators without incident.”
Flores was booked into the Benton County Jail on 19 counts, including 10 felony charges, and held on a $100,000 bond. Charges include fleeing by vehicle and by foot, aggravated assault upon a certified law enforcement officer, three counts of possession of firearms by certain persons and possession with intent to deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance.
Flores is scheduled to appear in Benton County Circuit Court on March 26.
