AARP Driver Safety Class

Space is available for the AARP Driver’s Safety Class on March 9. The class will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside Siloam Springs Regional Hospital’s Classroom 1, located at 603 N. Progress Ave. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Payment by cash or check is due the day of the class. Snacks and beverages are provided. Classes are designed for drivers 55 and better. Completion of the course qualifies students for auto insurance discounts in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Medical Scholarshi­ps

The Siloam Springs Hospital Auxiliary is offering scholarshi­ps to adults who are studying for the medical field. Applicants must have already graduated from high school and are currently enrolled or will be enrolled in an institutio­n to pursue their medical related studies. Applicatio­n forms may be picked up at the front desk at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital. Forms must be completed and returned to the hospital no later than April 1, 2018. All applicants will be contacted with the result within 45 days.

Blood Drive for Hope

An American Red Cross drive will be held at the Siloam Springs High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 in the school’s auxiliary gym, located at 700 North Progress Ave. The blood drive is sponsored by the high school band to raise awareness about millions of people who have congenital heart defects. Museum Road Trip

The Siloam Springs Museum is taking a road trip. In November, the museum’s book club read Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. In the 1920s, many members of the Osage tribe living in Pawhuska, Okla., were systematic­ally murdered. Killers of the Flower Moon tells the story of the murders and the resulting investigat­ion. At 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, the Siloam Springs Museum is hosting a free road trip to Pawhuska to see where this story took place. Heart-to-Heart with Dr. Harp

Join Dr. E. Beth Harp, of Siloam Springs Family Medicine, at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 21 inside Siloam Springs Regional Hospital’s Classroom 1 for a talk on how to keep your heart healthy. Cardiac Risk Assessment is Feb. 22

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital’s (SSRH) Healthy Community program will offer a free Cardiac Risk Assessment to community members ages 18 and older from 3-7 p.m. Feb. 22 inside SSRH’s Classroom 2.

The assessment will be by appointmen­t only and will include: Personal history (age, gender, height, weight, etc.), oxygen saturation, heart rate, blood pressure and body mass index. Please call 479-215-3125 to reserve a time or for informatio­n.

In addition to the assessment, informatio­n on heart health, diabetes, nutrition, lung cancer screenings and stroke awareness will be available.

Writing Contest

Siloam Springs Public Library and Siloam Springs Writers Guild announce their winter 2018 writing contest. The contest will give writers a chance to polish their skills, compete for publicatio­n and wine prizes. It is open to young adults in eighth through 11th grade; and adults 12th grade through centenaria­n. The essay should be a 250- to 750-word response to “How has the weather affected you?” Entries are due Feb. 28 and should be submitted at the Siloam Springs Public Library, located at 205 East Jefferson. Friends of the Library Bookstore

The Friends of the Library Bookstore — located in Siloam Springs Public Library — has an assortment of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, audio books — most priced under $2. Signs in the library will guide patrons to the bookstore area which is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Friends of the Library uses all proceeds from the store to benefit the library, especially the children’s summer reading programs. Donations are always welcomed.
