Girls soccer defeats Mount St. Mary, West

CENTERTON — The Siloam Springs girls soccer team improved to 2-0 to start the season Friday after defeating Class 7A Mount Saint Mary 1-0 in the Northwest Arkansas Showcase held at Bentonvill­e West.

Freshman Jaleigh Harp scored off a corner kick from Laura Morales in the second half for the game’s only goal.

“It was an up and down game,” said Siloam Springs head coach Brent Crenshaw. “Both teams had chances.”

The Lady Panthers also got a boost with the return of starters Megan Hutto, Brooklyn Buckminste­r and Shelby Johnson to the lineup.

Hutto had been out with an injury, while Buckminste­r and Johnson were playing basketball.

“It was good to get Hutto healthy and the basketball girls back,” Crenshaw said. “I’m also proud of our freshmen who continue to make progress and contribute on the field.”

The tournament continued on Saturday. Results were not available at presstime.

Siloam Springs is scheduled to play Tuesday at Rogers.

Siloam Springs 3, Bentonvill­e West 2

Siloam Springs got two goals from freshmen in a season-opening victory over Bentonvill­e West on Tuesday at Panther Stadium.

Freshman Macie Herrell scored the game’s first goal and Laura Morales added a goal for a 2-0 lead.

Bentonvill­e West cut the lead to 2-1 before halftime and tied the game 2-2 in the second half.

Siloam Springs freshman Madison Race scored with around 32 minutes left in the second half for the game-winner.
