Girls soccer finishes second at showcase, boys third

- From Staff Reports

CENTERTON — The Siloam Springs girls soccer team advanced to the championship match of the NWA Soccer Showcase on Saturday, but the Lady Panthers were handed their first loss of the season, losing to Class 7A Conway 2-0 at Bentonville West.

Earlier in the day, the Lady Panthers had defeated host West 1-0 on a Megan Hutto goal in the semifinals, and Siloam Springs (3-1) had defeated Mount St. Mary 1-0 in the opening round of the tournament on Friday.

“The girls played three 7A teams and won two and competed against Conway,” said Siloam Springs head coach Brent Crenshaw. “Still a lot of young kids in some spots learning, but I’m happy with the process.”

The Siloam Springs boys finished third in the tournament with a 1-0 win against Clarksville on Saturday night with the Panthers’ only goal coming from Franklin Cortez.

The Panthers (3-1) opened the tournament with a 2-1 win against Bentonville on Friday before losing 3-1 to Conway on Saturday afternoon. Eli Jackson scored his third goal of the season for the Panthers’ only goal in the loss to the Wampus Cats.

“The boys played a very good Conway team and showed us some weaknesses we need to address,” Crenshaw said.

Both teams were scheduled to play at Rogers on Tuesday. Results were not available at presstime.

The Panthers and Lady Panthers are scheduled to host Van Buren on Thursday before heading to Harrison this weekend for a tournament.
