Healthy Community Fair

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital at the annual Healthy Community Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5. The event is free for all ages and is located on the hospital campus at 603 N. Progress Ave. in Siloam Springs. There will be a vendor expo, teddy bear clinic, emergency services vehicles, a Healthy Journey activity for the whole family and more. Steel Guitar Convention

The 24th annual Siloam Springs Steel Guitar Convention will be held April 28-29 at Southside Elementary School Auditorium at 200 W. Tulsa St.

The convention runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, and 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 29.

The convention will feature steel guitar plaeyrs as well as other top musicians and performers from the four-state area. Admission is free but donations are accepted. For more informatio­n, call 479-5492349.

Siloam Springs Writers Guild to meet

The Siloam Springs Writers Guild will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, May 14, at First Baptist Church, 2000 Dawn Hill Road. Please use the west entrance. The featured speaker will be published author Dave Schochler, a member of the Guild. The prose assignment will be to describe a person, place, thing or process. The poetry assignment is to write a cinquain or group of three cinquains. Assignment­s are to be emailed to sswgsisp@gmail.com through May 1. FFA Alumni Consignmen­t Auction

The Siloam Springs FFA Alumni will host a consignmen­t auction and a pie auction starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Butler Creek Arena. Consignmen­ts are needed and items that are accepted include heavy machinery, farm equipment, tractors, trailers, ATVs, lawn mowers, tools, furniture, antiques, saddles, tack, home decor and animals (horses must have coggins papers and poultry are not allowed). There is a 10 percent consignmen­t fee and the seller will get 90 percent. Proceeds benefit the FFA scholarshi­p fund. Reserves are allowed, and there is no buyer’s premium and no fee for no sale. A pie auction of homemade pies and cinnamon rolls will follow the consignmen­t auction. Breakfast, including biscuits and gravy, donuts, coffee and drinks will be available. Items can be dropped off at the arena on April 27 or before 9 a.m. on April 28.

Fraternal Order of Police 5K and fun walk

The Siloam Springs Regional Fraternal Order of Police is planning an MVP 5K and 1 mile fun walk at 8 a.m. May 12 in Bob Henry Park. Bid on one of three available “arrest warrants” on the day of the race. The top three finishers will receive a medal. Registrati­on fees are $25 and all proceeds will benefit Ability Tree. Dogwood book sale

Friends of the Library organizati­on will hold its annual book sale during the Dogwood Festival, April 27-29. Hundreds of good quality used books, CDs, and DVDs will be on sale BOGO (Buy One-Get One Free) at Siloam Springs Public Library. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Included are many children’s books, vintage/ rare books, and a wide variety from every genre — all are welcome!

Post 29 serving during Dogwood Festival

The American Legion Post 29 and the American Legion Auxiliary will be serving lunch at the American Legion Community Building during the 44th annual Dogwood Festival. On Friday, April 27, there will be cornbread and beans. On Saturday, April 28, there will be a spaghetti lunch. Meals will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day and are $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 4-12 and free for children ages 4 and younger. The Community Building is located at 110 N. Mount Olive St.

SSRH Auxiliary Volunteer Drive

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital Auxiliary is looking for willing volunteers for the informatio­n desk, obstetrics department, radiology department, surgery department and materials management. The Auxiliary offers an opportunit­y to help the community while working three or four hours a week. Coffee with the Commander

Each Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Siloam Post 29 of The American Legion hosts “Coffee with the Commander.” A time for those who served to enjoy the camaraderi­e that they experience­d during their time with “Uncle Sam.” The event is held in the basement of the American Legion Community Hall located at 110 N. Mount Olive St. The coffee and donuts are fresh, the conversati­on is usually lively, jolly and informativ­e. Friends of the Library Bookstore

The Friends of the Library Bookstore — located in Siloam Springs Public Library — has an assortment of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, audio books — most priced under $2. Signs in the library will guide patrons to the bookstore area which is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Friends of the Library uses all proceeds from the store to benefit the library, especially the children’s summer reading programs. Donations of used books and electronic media in good condition are always welcomed.

Coat Drive

New and gently used coats and sweaters of all sizes, especially children’s sizes, are being collected for those in need. They will be distribute­d at the clothing giveaway at Eastgate Church of Christ from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. Items also are offered to nursing home residents and students at local schools. All coats will be cleaned by Snappy Dry Cleaners. Coats can be dropped off at the office of Dr. Susan Vaughan, at My Family Eye Care, located at 820 Stateline Road in West Siloam Springs, or at Snappy Dry Cleaners located at 618 Holly St., or at Eastgate Church of Christ located at 1997 East U.S. Highway 412. Yoga Classes

Bridges to Wellness and the Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring Yoga classes. Classes will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday nights at the Moss House located at 311 S. Mount Olive St. The cost for classes is $3. For more informatio­n, call Sarah Losh at 479-549-3143.

Fire Department feedback

The Siloam Springs Fire Department has announced a new Emergency Medical Services Customer Survey. This will allow individual­s who have been treated by a city ambulance to provide honest and confidenti­al feedback into their experience. Customers can provide valuable insight and feedback into the Fire Department’s performanc­e.

“Our goal is to constantly strive to improve the quality of the services that we provide to the citizens,” said Siloam Springs Fire Department Chief Jeremey Criner. “The feedback that we receive will be an integral part of our quality improvemen­t program.”

Senior Activity Center

The Siloam Springs Senior Activity & Wellness Center invites anyone over the age of 60 to come to the center for lunch.

The center is located at 750 Heritage Court. Cost for lunch is $3 donation per meal. There is an exercise room and game room for guests’ enjoyment.
