Tennis teams’ season ends at 5A-West Tournament

RUSSELLVIL­LE — The Siloam Springs tennis teams saw their 2018 season come to an end Monday on the first day of the 5A-West Conference Tournament held at Russellvil­le High School and Arkansas Tech.

Senior Oliver Reid won his first singles match of the day, and the doubles team of freshman Lucas Junkermann and junior Trey Hardcastle won their match as well, but they both lost in the quarterfin­al round to end their season.

All other Siloam Springs participan­ts were defeated in the first round. Singles players and doubles teams needed to advance to the semifinals in order to advance to the Class 5A State Tournament.

“We had a lot of competitiv­e matches, but we came up short,” said head coach Scott Wright.

In the boys division, which was played at Russellvil­le High Schoool, Reid defeated Alma’s Evan Peters 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round, while Eli Pierce of Little Rock Christian defeated Siloam Springs freshman Canyon Cross 6-0, 6-0.

Blake Robertson of Beebe went on to defeat Reid in the quarterfin­als 6-2, 6-4.

In boys doubles, Junkermann and Hardcastle defeated the team of Israel Hatley and Noah Joslin of Alma 6-3, 6-4 in the opening round. The Greenbrier team of Brady Jerry and Trey Hoopchuck defeated Siloam Springs’ team of Boone Henley and Blaise Becan 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round.

Junkermann and Hardcastle were defeated by Greenwood’s team of Auston Shown and Jonathan Mitchell 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round.

In girls singles, which was played at Arkansas Tech, Siloam Springs’ Kat Reimer was defeated by Alma’s Chloe Ray 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 in the opening round.

Paige Davis of Russellvil­le defeated Siloam Springs’ Nikkita Ho 6-0, 6-0 in another singles match.

In girls doubles, the Siloam Springs team of Faith Howie and Jaleigh Harp lost 6-1, 6-1 to Vilonia’s team of Olivia Lowe and Kristen Madden.

Kacey Soderquist and Eve Slater of Siloam Springs lost 6-2, 0-6, 7-5 to Jasmine Killings and Haley Ellzey of Greenbrier.
