SSHS softball wins season opener

The Siloam Springs softball team opened its 2022 season with an 11-1 mercy rule win in six innings over Huntsville on Thursday at La-Z-Boy Park.

After giving up an early Huntsville run, the Lady Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the second.

Siloam Springs scored four runs in the fifth to go up 10-1 and added another run in the sixth to end the game.

The Lady Panthers finished with 10 hits, including three hits and three runs scored from Hannah Mather.

Josie Samarin had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored, while Aspeyn Downing had two hits and a run and RBI. Kaidence Prendergas­t and Morgan Teafatille­r each had a hit, run scored and RBI. Hilarie Buffington had a base hit, while Kayleigh Castaneda, Aubree Dry, Aveary Speed and Haylee Fox all scored runs.

Samarin was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts in six innings. She gave up two hits and walked three batters.

Springdale Har-Ber 7, Siloam Springs 1

The Lady Panthers scored an early run in the first inning but no more in a loss at Springdale HarBer on Friday.

Har-Ber scored three runs in the third and two each in the fourth and fifth to take the win.

Aubree Dry scored the Lady Panthers’ only run. Josie Samarin had two hits, while Dry, Kaidence Prendergas­t, Morgan Teafatille­r, Kayleigh Castaneda, Hilarie Buffington and Aveary Speed each had base hits.

Samarin (1-1) took the loss for Siloam Springs. Annistion Reth got the win for Har-Ber.

Zyria Palmer had three hits and scored two runs to lead Har-Ber.

Up next

The Lady Panthers are scheduled to host Lincoln on Monday at La-Z-Boy Park. Lincoln, coached by former Lady Panther Brittany (Holmes) Engel, beat the Lady Panthers 6-5 in a benefit game last month.
