■ Set the scene of your viewing party.

“I decided that we could do a socialdistancing sort of thing in the backyard. People could only come in to go to the bathroom. I take care of my neighbors; one of my neighbors is like a second mom to me and her husband, they’re like my parents. They’re 88 and have some health conditions that I need to be careful with, so I’ve not really been hanging out with people. But I decided to have some of my girls over, so they were in the backyard, trying to set up the tablet. We had gotten the CBS All Access pass and my friend was getting it going for the 5 o’clock start time [for the West Coast feed]. So I was in the kitchen getting stuff together, three of my girlfriends were in the backyard, and as it was getting closer and closer, they’re going, ‘It’s not coming on! It’s not saying that it’s the Emmys, it’s the news!’ I was like, ‘It’s the news? Why is it the news?!’ So I’m still in the kitchen, trying to get the little tray of food together, my girls are out back and four minutes past the hour, my phone rings and it’s my mom. She goes, ‘Are you watching?’ I said, ‘No, we’re having trouble.’ She’s like, ‘You won!’ I said, ‘I won?’ She said, ‘You won!’ And I just started screaming and jumping up and down in the kitchen [laughs]. I was like, ‘What?!’ I ran outside with my mom on the phone and I yelled, ‘I won!’ I was jumping up and down, my friends were jumping up and down. I’ll be honest, it was actually really, really beautiful that my mom was the one who called and told me. It was really so lovely and kind of perfect.” We saw online that you Facetimed with Alicia Minshew (ex-kendall, ALL

MY CHILDREN). “I did — and I tried to take a photo, like a screen grab, but I’m such a grandma. I was like, ‘Why does it keep going off?’ She was like, ‘You’re pressing the wrong button!’

But it was so great to see Lish and [her daughter] Willow and [her husband] Richie [Herschenfeld]. It was a wonderful, wonderful night. I was so filled with joy and got so many beautiful texts. I would be interested to know if other people felt this way, but I watched Bryton’s [James, Devon] reaction video on Brytni’s [Sarpy, Elena, Y&R’S Instagram] and it was the most beautiful reaction. If he was in the audience at the awards ceremony, he probably still would have smiled and been happy, but it wouldn’t have been the same type of reaction because he wouldn’t have had his loved ones around him screaming their heads off, because you’re not in a work environment. There is something really beautiful about it being at home and being with loved ones who are so excited for you, because we all love each other and root for each other in life.”
