OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR WINNER

What was it like to win an Emmy the virtual way? “It was actually pretty cool just because you’re in the comfort of your home, you’re surrounded by people that probably wouldn’t be able to get tickets to the event, and also the fact this year it was televised. The fact that it was on CBS and prime-time was great. I know the ratings were really great for the show. It’s going to be a one-of-a-kind experience.” It seems this win was more meaningful because it was for the late Kristoff St. John [ex-neil] and in a category that
he won in, as well. “Kristoff would always tease me about having the [Outstanding Younger Actor] kid Emmy because it took him a while to get Supporting. I think he got the younger actor one real early on in the ’90s. To join him in that way really meant the world. I wish forever that we never had to film those episodes [of Neil’s funeral]. It will definitely be the most special thing I’ve ever won. Someone posted also the first time I won and I think he was the first person that hugged me as I walked down the aisle back in 2007. It’s even more special now.” Do you feel like you were able to put more heart into your speech because
it wasn’t live? “I think so. I mean, I never like to wing anything. Even if we were at a venue and I would have had to get up on stage I would have had an idea of something to say, especially the last message I tried to give because it’s an extremely important time, and any opportunity that people have to get on a platform and try to spread a good message and awareness is a good thing. So I definitely would have had something planned.”
Where do you plan to display it? “You know, my mom had my first one for just up until she moved about a year and a half ago, and then I took it back for a bit. I have it here but I’m going to end up giving her my first one so she can keep it at her place. I’ll just keep [the second one] here.”
