DAYS: ALLIE GOES INTO LABOR

-

■ Sami is relieved when Rafe agrees not to adopt Allie’s baby. “First of all, what I love about this story is I think Sami really feels completely righteous in telling Rafe that he’s not the right person to raise this child,” begins Alison Sweeney (Sami). “She sort of can’t believe anyone is considering it. He’s going to be a great dad someday. He’s a good guy, obviously. She has lots of complicated feelings for him, but the idea of him being a single father to Allie’s baby is just a nonstarter as far as Sami’s concerned.”

But keeping Sami and Rafe’s conversation from Allie proves difficult. “Sami tells Will what she did with Rafe, which is a mistake because now it makes him an accessory, which he would rather not be,” says Sweeney. “Will feels guilty for being complicit in Sami’s secret. I think that she feels confident that Will is not going do anything stupid to ruin the plan.”

Lucas, however, warns Sami that Allie will never forgive her if she finds out Sami went behind her back with Rafe. “Lucas agrees with Sami that the baby shouldn’t go to Rafe,” notes Sweeney. “Lucas is also relieved that Rafe has decided not to pursue it. But when he finds out that Sami made it happen, he’s outraged by her methods, as opposed to letting Rafe or Allie come to their senses on their own. He’s correctly guessing into the future that if Allie did find out it’ll ruin it.”

Sure enough, Allie does find out — from Nicole. “Sami goes to confront Nicole about why Nicole told Allie,” sets up Sweeney. “She’s angry. While they’re there, Allie shows up and confronts Sami about it and they end up yelling, which is a familiar dynamic between Allie and Sami. I think Allie’s whole situation is partially to do with Sami being so iron-willed about how Allie should live her life. From Sami’s point of view, Allie’s gone off on her own and made a mess of everything. Sami’s a little less willing to hear Allie’s point of view because she feels like Allie’s done nothing but take advantage of her ‘freedom’ and make bad decisions for herself and party and get in trouble in lots of different ways, not just this. Sami’s sort of treating Allie like a little kid.”

The argument takes a dramatic turn when Allie goes into labor. “It escalates from there and then, all of a sudden, Allie is grabbing her belly and kind of freaking out,” previews Sweeney. “Sami’s instincts turn immediately from the emotional situation to, ‘We gotta get her to the hospital.’ ”

“Sami’s a little less willing to hear Allie’s point of view.”
