Y&R’S SASHA CALLE LANDS “SUPER” MOVIE ROLE

-

■ Sasha Calle (Lola,

Y&R) has scored the major role of Supergirl in DC Universe’s upcoming blockbuster,

The Flash. Out of hundreds of actresses who auditioned, The

Flash’s director, Andy

Muschietti, was wowed by Calle’s performance.

“I saw more than four hundred auditions. The U.S., Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia,” he told Deadline.com. “The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.” Muschietti broke the news during a video call to Calle, who reacted in shock and tears. The actress later shared the video on her Instagram and commented, “This still hasn’t fully hit me. I’m starting to cry as I type this because I know it’s me in that video.. but I still can’t believe it.” Calle then changed over to Spanish in her post, which translates to: “A Latina superhero?! On what planet?! Well, on this planet!! What joy and what pride.” She finished off with, “Andy, the moment I met you through Zoom, when we started this process, it was as if I had known you my whole life. I felt the same way when I met Ezra [Miller, The Flash]. Thank you for your love and support. Thank you for believing in me.”

In a joint statement, Y&R’S Executive Producer, Anthony Morina, and Co-executive Producer/head Writer Josh Griffith, lauded,

“On behalf of everyone at THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, we’d like to congratulate Sasha

Calle on making history and being chosen to play the first Latina ‘Supergirl’. The role of ‘Supergirl’ is a perfect fit for someone of Sasha’s immense talent and we wish her all the best as she takes on this groundbreaking role.”

There is no word on whether the actress, who joined the show in September 2018, will be making a permanent exit beyond leaving to film the movie.
