GH: CODY STRIKES OUT WITH BRITT
■ Cody has gone to great lengths to secure a first date with Britt, but it doesn’t go well.
Before the date, Dante calls out Cody for viewing Britt as a challenge he couldn’t resist. According to Josh Kelly (Cody), “I think there is an element of honesty in that. Sometimes people need excuses to go after people [romantically], and they’re not even really being honest with themselves that they actually just want to go after the person!” Still, most people wouldn’t do what Cody has done — blackmailed Spinelli into making Society Setups match him with Britt to bring about their date in the first place. Says Kelly, “I guess my reasoning is that Cody uses his childhood and his tough upbringing as an excuse but he likes to overcomplicate things. And I can definitely relate to that! It’s almost easier for him to complicate things and have more chaos in his life than it is to have an easy, casual existence ... and that is Josh Kelly in a nutshell [laughs]!”
Cody arranges for the first date to take place at the stables. “I think that sounds pretty romantic, but Dr. Westbourne doesn’t see it that way,” the actor previews. “I think Britt would have preferred something different.” Despite this, Cody does his very best to present himself as the kind of guy Britt would want a relationship with. Sums up Kelly, “He doesn’t realize that they are probably actually more right for each other than he knows, so he is just kind of saying things to try to get the desired response. He’s just kind of being more banal and humdrum than he actually is because he doesn’t want her to think that he’s crazy! ‘Oh, I’d like to have kids one day,’ things like that — milquetoast stuff. In actuality, he should probably just be more himself. And Britt lets him know that pretty quickly. Cody gets a little defensive, but let’s just say that she ends up getting the upper hand and has a strong response to how boring he is.”
Even though by end of the date, “Cody’s mood has been dampened,” as Kelly puts it, don’t expect him to give up on making inroads with Britt. “He likes that she’s not like everybody else,” he notes. “She’s kind of a renegade and she’s edgy and he really does like her.” Plus, it’s not lost on Cody that she is in a better financial situation than he is. “He is very hard up for cash,” the actor says. “And her father is Cesar Faison. I think Cody thinks there might be some kind of hidden fortune there!”
