Sports camp’s second year ends with ‘Wizard’-ry

- By Bob Keeler

There was lots of action all last week at Penn Valley Church’s sports camp, held at the church’s Telford campus on Third Street.

“We’ve done four sports: soccer, baseball, softball and basketball,” Associate Pastor of Families Andrew Saunders said.

This was the second year the camp was held.

“We had 107 campers,” Saunders

said, “plus about 50 or so staff members that helped out with the week.”

The camp, for children ages 6 through 12, was done in partnership with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

It wrapped up the evening of Aug. 10 with a free meal for the children and their parents followed by an appearance demonstrating the basketball wizardry of Harlem Wizards team members David “DP” Paul and Dwayne “Swoop” Simpson.

“We just wanted to have a fun end to the week,” Saunders said.

“We had a great week,” he said. “The rain held off until today, but thankfully we have a gym that we’re able to switch kids around.”
