Mil­dred Thudium

Mil­dred Dorothy Thudium (nee Tweed) of Fort Wash­ing­ton Es­tates, Fort Wash­ing­ton, Pa., and a for­mer long­time res­i­dent of Ore­land, joined her Heav­enly Fa­ther on Aug. 6, 2012, at age 93.

She is sur­vived by her chil­dren, Kath­leen A. Riker, Dou­glas T. (Linda) and Ju­dith M. Thudium. She will also be missed by her three grand­chil­dren, Brian, Karen and Emily. She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Wil­liam C., and sons Ron­ald W. and Philip A. Thudium.

Mil­dred was born and raised in the farm­lands of North Dakota. She grad­u­ated from Lutheran Dea­coness Hospi­tal School of Nurs­ing in Min­neapo­lis, Minn., in 1943. She en­listed in the Army Nurse Corps and served over­seas dur­ing World War II. While serv­ing in France, she met Wil­liam, a sol­dier work­ing in the hospi­tal phar­macy. Af­ter the war, they mar­ried, and she moved to his home­town of Philadel­phia. She later re­sumed her nurs­ing ca­reer in the ma­ter­nity depart­ment of Ch­est­nut Hill Hospi­tal.

Mil­dred en­joyed bak­ing, cook­ing, quilt­ing and trav­el­ing. She was a lov­ing and de­voted wife, mother, grand­mother and friend. Above all, Mil­dred loved the Lord. She was a mem­ber of Ore­land Evangelical Pres­by­te­rian Church and par­tic­i­pated in the choir and var­i­ous min­istries for as long as she was phys­i­cally able. She re­mained a faith­ful ser­vant to the Lord un­til He called her home.

A cel­e­bra­tion of the life of Jonathan Elam El­well, 44, will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 26, 2012, at the Tyler­sport Fire Hall, Rte. 563 Ridge Road, Tyler­sport, Pa.

He was re­cov­ered in Iowa June 19, 2012, af­ter go­ing miss­ing in April while on va­ca­tion.
