DOG LOVERS

-

he June issue is a real pleasure — so many good articles: “A Tragic Loss In The Clipper Race”; “A Champion Of Our Maritime Heritage [Peter Stanford]”; “The Disappearances Of And the article about Graham McKay and the Lowell Boat Shop [Walking the Plank]; the Kirby Paint story (we used Kirby’s when I worked for the harbormaster in Chatham, Massachusetts — great bottom paint, of course copper is not so good these days); the article; the details about the Grand Banks 42 refit (I had the pleasure of helping take a GB42 from Harwich Port to Fort Lauderdale in 1978); and the article about L. Francis Herreshoff. What a story!

All of these are great, and many brought back memories of my wooden-boat days. Thanks for the pleasure. Richard C. Hiscock Vergennes, Vermont

When the owner came to inspect the finished boat, he was so pleased that he bought a new suit of sails and granted me unlimited use.

I only knew the basics of sailing from attending camp, but we learned by doing. This boat was very fast but tender. We sailed all over, many miles past Mount Vernon.

I wanted to tell you how very much John and I enjoyed Mary South’s June editorial [“Salty Dogs”]. Can we ever relate to her experiences and to the spirit of our mutual love of dogs. We have many tales to tell from our 15-plus years of boating with our various dogs. And what we have gone through to take them ashore from an anchorage because they refused to “go” on the boat! We are a special lot, we dog lovers.

This editorial is a keeper, for sure. Thanks for sharing. Betsie Tegtmeyer Principal, Krogen Express Yachts
