A Dual Console With Multiple Roles

- — Chris Landry

With its twin swim platforms, enclosed head compartment and seating from bow to stern, the new Grady- White Freedom 235 dual console is designed to meet all of your dayboating needs, from fishing and water sports to snorkeling and swimming.

The swim platforms, integrated into the hull, flank the single outboard. The starboard platform has a sturdy four-step swim ladder. The cockpit can be accessed through a transom door, also on the starboard side.

The oversized head includes stowage that extends into the bow for rods and skis. The transom has a built-in 160-quart insulated box for your catch or your refreshments. The adjacent storage box can be plumbed for an optional 15.5- gallon live well. A recessed freshwater cockpit shower is standard.

An aft bench seat folds away neatly, and there’s an optional ski pylon for towing. An optional inboard-facing wet bar to starboard in the cockpit includes drink holders and a 35-quart Yeti cooler. The cushioned seating that fills the bow can accommodate six passengers. A hardtop or canvas Bimini also is available.

The 23-footer rides Grady-White’s SeaV2 variable deadrise hull (20 degrees at the transom). It can be powered with a Yamaha F250 or F300. With an F300, the boat tops out at 44 mph and gets about 3 mpg at 26 to 28 mph. At 41 mph, mileage dips to 2 mpg. With an F250, the boat hits 43 mph wide open and cruises at 26 mph with a mileage rating of 2.7 mpg. The F250-powered boat also gets 2 mpg at 41 mph but at a higher rpm of 5,500. Fuel capacity is 115 gallons.

Cockpit depth is 25 inches, and the boat can carry a crew of 10. Grady-White Boats, Greenville, North Carolina, (252) 752-2111. gradywhite.com
