BOATLESS? PERISH THE THOUGHT

-

I am sure Mary South will be flooded with Marshall 22 offers as a result of her September column, so I will simply add mine to the list [Underway, “Good Choices”]. However, mine is located in Onancock, Virginia — a wonderful sail north, through the Chesapeake & Delaware canal and up to Philadelphia. It’s a chance for you to be that young girl again, sailing Chesapeake Bay.

At 70 years old, I, too, dream of being a lithe young man again. I want to keep all my acquired knowledge but get the 17-year-old body back. Ain’t life great! Niall B. Finnegan via email

South should get the Marshall catboat and try de Rouville’s Boat Shop in Bayville, New Jersey — a straight shot from Philly and loaded with cats and other cool traditional boats. I am biased. I learned to sail on Beetle Cats and now have a 17-foot Cape Cod catboat, which we love. We just sailed Toccata from Westport,

Ten or so years ago Dick Pulsifer’s used Pulsifer Hampton specialist Stew Hart decided to sail around the world with his bride, Barbara. I’m a one- horse yacht broker, so Stew asked if I would consider applying for his position. We all had donuts and coffee the next morning, and I signed on. I have since had the honor of meeting wonderful Pulsifer Hampton owners and making new friends with prospective buyers.

I have six or seven Pulsifer Hamptons that are looking for new stewards. Give me a call if you want to have a look. I’ll bring the coffee and donuts. I might even ask Dick to join us. John P. Holmes Yarmouth, Maine
