COBIA 240 DC

COBIA’S DUAL CONSOLE IS A CROWD PLEASER WITH PLENTY OF FISHING DNA BAKED IN

- — Gary Reich

This new dual console rides on the builder’s sweet center console hull and blends fishing and family features.

Based on the hull of its 240 CC, the 240 DC is Cobia Boats’ latest dual console model. The multipurpose dayboat, which premiered at the Miami Boat Show with a sharp- looking, pale- blue hull, falls between the 22- and 28-foot dual consoles in the Fort Pierce, Florida, builder’s lineup. The 240 DC offers a mix of family and fishing features. The boat looks comfortable, and has a utilitarian, hose-down feel.

Fish-minded folks will find a transom-mounted livewell, tackle stowage drawers, rod stowage, plumbed fish lockers, rocket launchers on the hardtop pipework and a cockpit area for prepping, cooking and rigging. The helm dash has room for a 12- inch multifunction display.

For family cruising, numerous areas transform themselves into comfort

zones. For instance, the bow morphs from a casting area to a cushy sunpad. Remove a cushion insert and drop in a pedestal table, and the space is set up for dining. Farther aft, the port console seat has an adjustable seat back that moves forward and aft to form a lounge or twin seats, one facing forward and one aft. In the cockpit is a flip-down transom bench.

Below the port console are a plumbed head, a sink with a mixer and shower wand, a stowage cabinet and foam decking with a drain. Under the starboard console is stowage for the bow table and gear.

There are a number of power options, including a pair of 150- hp Yamaha F150 4- stroke outboards or a single 300- hp Yamaha F300 4- stroke outboard. The maximum horsepower rating is 300.

The 240 DC makes me dream of a day of kite fishing for sailfish off the Florida coast with my family. This boat not only seems up to the task of finding and fishing the bite, but it also looks ready to keep guests secure and comfortable.
