With communities across the country continuing to feel the strains caused by COVID-19, Bank of America has organized a nationwide initiative to donate nearly 4 million personal protective equipment masks to those affected by the pandemic.

In South Florida, Bank of America teamed up with 16 nonprofits in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties to distribute 340,000 masks.

“The health and safety of our employees, clients and communities remain our top priority during this health and humanitarian crisis,” Fort Lauderdale Bank of America Market President Lori Chevy said in a statement.

“One of the ways we continue to do this is by working with local partners to identify and distribute PPE masks to the most vulnerable populations, such as to neighborhoods with poor air quality, lowto-moderate income families unable to acquire proper masks, and communities of color in addition to frontline workers, schools and health centers serving these communities.”

In total, 200,000 masks were distributed in Miami to the Chapman Enterprises, United Way, Camillus House and The Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation. Throughout Broward County, 110,000 masks were supplied to 11 nonprofits including Junior Achievement of South Florida, Urban League of Broward County, Hispanic Unity, Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and YMCA of South Florida.

Palm Beach County received 30,000 masks and were donated to Clinics Can Help and United Way of Palm Beach County.
