Versailles-inspired mansion includes private lake, island

Buyers looking for something out of the ordinary in South Florida might be attracted to Pont du Lac, an 8,552-square-foot estate in Pinecrest, for its Versailles-inspired decor and luxury appointments. But the 2.1-acre property contains something else of interest: a private lake with its own island, accessible by a footbridge.

The two-story gated mansion, at 9755 SW 67th Ave., has French flair, along with five bedrooms and six baths. Build in 2014, it was intended to be an homage to the Palace of Versailles and its gardens.

The grounds have walking paths, park benches and manicured gardens, as well as the lake and island, which houses a pavilion. The property is listed for $6.333 million.

Incorporated in 1996, the Village of Pinecrest is south of downtown Miami. It’s an affluent community that’s family-friendly, with great schools and easy access to employment centers.

“People buy in Pinecrest to get more land,” said Mauricio Barba, a real estate agent at Compass Florida in Miami, who holds the listing. “And this house makes you feel like you’re on a perennial vacation because of the private lake, which is very rare.”

The lake, which is man-made, has depths of seven to 12 feet and is used for swimming and kayaking, Barba said. There’s also a pool.

Interior features include three family rooms, volume ceilings, a spacious master suite and fireplace.

Barba said the current owner is selling because she’s relocating.
