WHERE TO FIND FREE MEALS IN SOUTH FLORIDA DURING THE PANDEMIC

With COVID-19 affecting the community, one of the biggest concerns has been putting food on the table.

Broward and Palm Beach County Public Schools along with other organizations have teamed up to make sure that families don’t go hungry. Here are some of the organizations offering free meals. If your organization would like to be included on this list, email Brett Shweky at bshweky@sunsentinel.com.

SOUTH FLORIDA

Farm Share

Dates: Vary

Details: Farm Share distributes fresh food free-of-charge to families, children, seniors and individuals in need throughout Florida. The nonprofit partnered with Lyft, the driving service, to deliver food to those unable to reach the distribution sites. Bags included fresh produce, frozen proteins, non-perishable goods and bottled water.

Feeding South Florida

Dates: Vary

Details: Anyone in need can access drive-thru sites, and grab-n-go BreakSpot sites, at various locations during different days during the week. Times and locations change from a week-to-week basis. Feeding South Florida also has a home delivery program and a network of partner agencies who are open and can assist.

Franklin Academy

Dates: Thursdays

Hours: 6:30-7:30 a.m.; 4-5 p.m. Details: Five-day packs of breakfast and lunch will be distributed to all children 18 or younger. Franklin Academy’s Palm Beach Gardens campus will only be distributing meals during the mornings.

Details: As an online resource for the community, Together 4 Broward lists entities throughout the county that are assisting residents during the pandemic. With multiple locations around Broward County, healthy meals are offered from places such as food banks, Broward County public schools, churches and local government agencies.

BROWARD COUNTY

Details:

Seniors age 60 and up who are in need of food resources can request a frozen meal delivery to their residence for no cost. Those who are currently not receiving any food through meal programs or normally have meals at a congregate meal site that is closed can qualify for this service. Phone: 954-745-9779

Salvation Army of Broward County

Date: Every Thursday

Hours: 9 a.m.-noon

Details: The Salvation Army of Broward County will be distributing nonperishable items and other pantry goods to over 100 underserved families. Recipients must show proof of Broward residency to be eligible for the free meals distribution.

Inter Miami CF and DeliverLean

Dates: Wednesdays

Hours: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Details: DeliverLean will distribute nonperishable items or fresh meals to anyone in need on Wednesdays at Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Food will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis and will take place in the stadium’s parking lot for the foreseeable future.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County

Date: Monday - Sunday

Hours: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Details: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County will distribute breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to all children under the age of 18 to pick up via drive-thru style. Seven clubs throughout Palm Beach County will be handing out meals to children. Partnered with Fresh RX Kids, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach will also be providing a week’s worth of meals to entire club families.The Boca Raton and the Neil S. Details: The nonprofit is delivering frozen dinners to homebound seniors on a short-term emergency basis. The service is available for homebound seniors 70 or older and can be scheduled by calling Debbie Emerick.
