Buyers looking for a home for not only themselves but also for their horses should check out a 5,183-square-foot estate on plenty of acreage in Southwest Ranches.

The home, at 6201 Melaleuca Road, is listed for $9.5 million. It sits on over six acres of land in the popular town, which is not only drawing homebuyers seeking a little elbow room but also celebrities and athletes interested in easy access to airports and sports venues in Miami.

“Southwest Ranches is the Beverly Hills of Broward County,” said Chad Bishop, a real estate agent with One Sotheby’s International Realty in Fort Lauderdale, who shares the listing with colleague Saddy Delgado. “People are moving here in droves because they want estates.”

According to its municipal website, Southwest Ranches was incorporated in 2000 to preserve its rural lifestyle.

It consists of approximately 13 square miles of residential, rural and agricultural land about 15 miles southwest of Fort Lauderdale.

The two-story home, built in 1976, has nine bedrooms and nine full baths. Fully updated, it has a floating glass staircase, two fireplaces, a first-floor primary bedroom with a sitting area, a kitchen with quartz countertops and an oversized island and a separate two-bedroom apartment.

Exterior features include a tennis court, a soccer field, a state-of-the-art equestrian rink, an infinity-edge pool with hot tub and 10 horse stalls. There’s also an outdoor kitchen with a hibachi grill, pizza oven, wine refrigerator and barbecue.

Public records show that the current owners purchased the property in November 2013 for $1.65 million. Bishop said they are selling to move closer to the water or back to Mexico.
