Keep greyhounds racing: they’re bred to run

Competitive greyhound racing in the United States has been a tradition for nearly 100 years.

Greyhounds are bred to run, and they love to do just that. They’re a social, friendly, and verbal breed of canine that love to yip, bark, and yelp.

Greyhounds wear muzzles during racing, which leads some to believe they are aggressive dogs, but this is not true. The muzzles are worn to prevent injuries resulting from dogs nipping one another during or after a race.

Opponents to dog racing tell stories of ill-treatment and abuse. They say that these dogs are kept in small cages and fed rotten food.

The truth about the greyhound is the complete opposite.

Owners pay a lot of money for dogs with good breeding.

They raise them with care and feed them healthy food, so they become strong runners.

They are kept in spacious dog houses with large yards, so they can exercise at will and are able to socialize with other dogs.

The owners race dogs to make money, but they only make money when their dog wins races. Only well kept, healthy dogs win.

Lady Liberty. Majestic she stands in New York Harbor and she speaks to us, “Give me you tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free “These are words that have made America great!

We have a caravan of refugees fleeing death and poverty moving towards what they hope will be a better life for their children and perhaps a few thousand of them will make it to our border in a few weeks. They will be intercepted by as many as 20,000 border patrol and military personnel. A few of these people will be dangerous and must be turned back. The overwhelming number will be families with children who have just walked thousands of miles.

My suggestion is that we send 1,000 trained personnel to vet and process these refugees to make the process quick and efficient and we should embrace the successful candidates.

We should never forget that almost all of us are the product of immigrants seeking a better life for their families and it has made us strong. Courage, not fear has made us Great!
