The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade, the county’s prenatal and infant care coalition, has announced Shelia McCann as president of the board of directors. McCann joined the board in 2016, previously McCann serving as treasurer. Additionally, the board voted in Stephanie Triarhos-Suchlicki, Ph.D, as a new director.
The South Florida Institute on Aging (SoFIA), a nonprofit that creates planning and development strategies to deliver socio-economic support programs for South Florida seniors, has named Debbie Savage to its board of directors. Savage is founder and president of Responsive Home Care, a Savage private duty home care agency exclusively serving Broward County.
Bob Press, chief executive officer of Aventura-based TCA Capital, has been selected chairman of the board of directors for Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, in Davie. Press has been a longtime member of the board’s executive and investment/finance committees.

Hilton Miami Downtown appointed Susana Vento as director of sales and marketing. Vento joins Hilton from the RitzCarlton in South Beach and Bal Harbour, where she held the Market Director of Sales position and led the sales and marketing efforts for both resorts. Prior to that, she played a role in the pre-opening of The Confidante Miami Beach by Hyatt. In the past, Vento has held leadership positions at multiple resorts within The Ritz-Carton, Hyatt Hotels and Morgans Hotel Group in Miami.
Real estate
CMC Real Estate has named Kari Fernandez as sales director for Brickell Flatiron. Fernandez will work alongside Fortune Development Sales, the exclusive sales and marketing firm for the development project. Fernandez joins CMC from The Related Group, having worked as sales director for the company’s new development condominium projects Brickell Heights in Miami and SLS Puerto Madero in Buenos Aires Argentina.
Stephen Smith, formerly vice president of the Hogan Group, has joined Tower Commercial Real Estate as senior managing director. Earlier, Smith was a vice president at Carey, Kramer, Silvester Associates, loan correspondents for major insurance companies, and was a senior investment analyst for TIAA-CREF in New York, responsible for commercial mortgage investments in the Southeastern U.S. Tower-CRE is headquartered in Miami with offices in Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach.
Cheryl Stopnick has joined Sachs Media Group as senior vice president of public relations and director of South Florida Operations.
Sports
The United States Sailing Association’s nominating committee named new members of its National Governing Body’s board of directors and named new members recently, including John Schoendorf as treasurer, in Miami. The sailing organization provides leadership, integrity, and advancement for the sport in the United States and was founded in 1897 and headquartered in Bristol, R.I. US Sailing offers training and education programs for instructors and race officials, supports a wide range of sailing organizations and communities, issues offshore rating certificates, and provides administration and oversight of competitive sailing across the country, including National Championships and the US Sailing Team.
