“Death Leaves a Heartache No One Can Heal

Love Leaves a Memory No One Can Steal” Dominic (Donnie) J. Calabrese of Ft. Lauderdale Florida, formerly of Bronxville New York, passed away peacefully in his home October

26, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Magistro) Calabrese and brother Salvatore Mancino (Jeanne) and many loving relatives and friends. He was born in the Bronx, NY, the son of the late Teresa A. and John Calabrese. He graduated with a B.S. Degree in Political Science from Fordham University in 1954, and also earned three varsity ‘’letters” in Baseball. He immediately entered the US Army and served two years, mostly in Germany, in the Special Services Branch. He was honorably discharged with the permanent rank of First Lieutenant. He then attended Fordham University School of Law, and after three years, graduated with the degree of Doctor of Laws. During his almost 40 year career, Donnie was not only an expert in the field of law, but a savvy political consultant and back room strategist. While his law partner of over three decades was presiding over the New York City Council, or running for Governor, Donnie worked tirelessly to build a striving, well-respected law practice. He played a key role in New York City politics during the 80’s and 90’s, and will be remembered as the consummate professional with a quick wit, a sharp pen and an even sharper intellect. Donnie was an extraordinary athlete who, since childhood, passionately loved his “baseball”. He enjoyed golf, the music of Frank Sinatra, the humor of “Bob and Ray” the love of his many cousins, nieces, nephews and loyal friends, but most of all, the love of his life, his wife Mary, who he called “Fil”. He enriched so many lives with his sense of humor, compassion and above all his exceptional generosity.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 12 o’clock noon, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4595 Bayview Drive, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Catholic Hospice, 14875 NW 77th Avenue, Suite 100, Miami Lakes, Florida, 33014 ATTN: Jessica Joseph, 305822-2380; or catholichospice.org. www.baird-casefh.com
