Gwendolyn Gliem Slendak

March 10th, 1932 – November 8th, 2018 Our beloved Gwendolyn G. Slendak, age 86, resident of Plantation, FL for

54 years passed away November 8th, 2018. Daughter of Fred and Erma Gliem of St, Clair, MI, where she spent her first twenty two years surrounded by the beauty of the St, Clair river area. Gwen sang Opera at St. Clair High School, was a favorite in the St. Clair music circles as a soloist for the Congregational church, the Christian Science society as well as many other church and civic affairs. Her favorite performance was as the Mezzo Soprano in the Messiah. Many local and regional newspapers covered her recitals where Miss Gliem was enthusiastically received by large audiences. The reporters noted, “She charmed her listeners from the first note of “Lasciate Mi Morire” to her final encore “The Things I Love”. The highlight of the program was her dramatic aria from “Nadeschda” and the ever popular “My Heart At Thy Sweet Voice” presentation. Gwen presented her “recitals with a great deal of charm in manner, ease and grace”.

Gwen became a resident of the Ft. Lauderdale area in

1961 with her husband, Alex R. Slendak, Sr., also from the St. Clair – Port Huron area. She became a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority - Mu Sigma Phi local chapter in 1973 where she met so many of her dearest lifelong friends in Florida. She served her local community working at the Broward County Housing Authority until her retirement after twenty-five years. An incredibly loving and supportive wife, mother and grandmother that will be dearly missed, she will live on in our hearts and memories, generous and kind to all that knew her.

Gwen was preceded in death by her loving husband of

57 years, Alex (Al) R. Slendak, Sr. Survived by her sister, Pam Bezenah (St. Clair) daughter Sandra Bregetti (SC) son Alex R. Slendak Jr. (WI) granddaughters Ashley Wisor (SC) Amanda Slendak (MN) Jenna Slendak (MN). A visitation and memorial service will be held in her honor on Friday, March 8th, 2019, Plantation Presbyterian Church, 901 NW 70th Ave., Plantation, FL 33317. Time: to be determined.
