Looking for love in South Florida? Look elsewhere, study suggests

- By Johnny Diaz

South Florida singles can find croquetas, fancy cars and sunshine in abundance, but one thing that seems hard to find in the tropics is amor.

According to a new survey by Wallethub.com, Miami-Dade and Broward cities are tough places for singles looking for love in the United States.

The new report called “2018’s Best & Worst Cities for Singles” by the financial website ranked Miami as 43rd and Fort Lauderdale as 61st on the list from best to worst. Even so, that’s an improvement from last year’s rankings when the Magic City was No. 49 and Fort Lauderdale came in No. 86.

Other South Florida cities that made this year’s list — although they were near the bottom — were Hialeah at No. 180 and Pembroke Pines, secondto-last at No. 181, only in front of Brownsville, Texas. Apparently, singles in the Sunshine State have a better shot by heading north.

The top Florida cities were Tampa at No. 29 and Orlando at No. 30.

For the rankings, Wallet hub.com looked at 182 cities nationwide and considered three key categories — economics, fun and recreation and dating opportunities. The company also looked at the “share of single population to number of online dating opportunities to nightlife options.”

So, what are the top cities for singles, according to Wallethub.com? Atlanta, Denver, San Francisco, Portland, Oregon and Los Angeles.
