Grab a basket: Green markets return in South Florida

Fall is back in South Florida, and while our leaves generally don’t change colors, the license plates sure do. With the (sometimes slightly) cooler weather and increased tourists and snowbirds, come green markets and farmers’ markets in which local vendors sell food, beverages, arts and crafts and more. Some have yoga, live music or other entertainm­ent.

Most of the events are contingent on the weather and are subject to change. Anyone interested in attending one should check with the city in advance. All of them accept applicatio­ns from vendors who want to set up a booth.

Here’s everything you need to know about the green markets as they make their return to cities across South Florida this season:

Broward County

Coconut Creek

Every first and third Saturday from November through April, the city of Coconut Creek will have its farmers market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the north parking lot at the Township Plaza, southeast corner of Sample Road and Lyons Road. The farmers’ market offers fresh produce, handmade goods, agricultur­al-related crafts and prepared foods and is pet friendly.

Coral Springs

There is a new location for Coral Springs’ farmers’ market: old city hall, 9551 W. Sample Road. It takes place every second and fourth Sunday, October through March, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees can generally expect over 40 vendors selling fresh and prepared produce, baked goods and other food, handmade bags, pouches, wallets and aprons, jewelry, home decor, pet supplies, hammocks and more. Parkland

The city of Parkland has its farmers’ market at the Equestrian Center, 8350 Ranch Road, every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Nov. 3 through April 19. It offers fresh and organic produce, flowers, breads and other baked goods, as well as jam, honey, dips, sauces, fresh pasta, cheese and pickles. Parkland’s farmers’ market is also dog friendly and pet vendors are often selling goods there. Some of the dates include themes such as crafts, health and wellness, public safety, pets, community awareness and the environmen­t.

Plantation

There are usually over 20 vendors at Plantation’s farmers’ market offering everything from fresh produce, ice cream, hummus and juice to homemade leather bags, soaps and jewelry. It pops up

Pompano Beach

The green market happens every Saturday from

8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Old Town Pompano, 41 NE First St. from Nov. 2 through April

25. Pompano’s green market often has music, yoga and art exhibits at Bailey Contempora­ry Arts.

Tamarac

Community farmers’ market in Tamarac takes place every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through February at Tamarac Veterans’ Park, 7825 Southgate Blvd.

Palm Beach County

Boca Raton

The green market in Boca Raton happens every Saturday

The Delray Beach GreenMarke­t is back at Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave., from 9 a.m.to 2 p.m. every Saturday through May. There is fresh produce, exotic fruit, farm eggs, freshsquee­zed juice, kombucha, baked goods, honey, olive oils and balsamic vinegars, jams, nut butters, pickles, pasta and cheese, along with plenty of organic, vegan, gluten-free and sugar-free options and more for sale.

Lake Worth Beach

The farmers’ market in Lake Worth Beach will take place under the bridge at A1A and Lake Avenue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. The dog friendly market will have locally grown vegetables, fresh flowers, baked goods, coffee and more.

Palm Beach Gardens

The Gardens GreenMarke­t is rain or shine and takes place every Sunday through May 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall, 10500 N. Military Trail. There will be music and other demonstrat­ions or events. Pets are not allowed but service animals are welcome.

Royal Palm Beach

The village of Wellington will not be having its green market this season, but the neighborin­g community of Royal Palm Beach will and it will be at a new location this year. It will take place Lakeside at Village Hall, 1050 Royal Palm Beach Blvd., every Saturday from October through April from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

West Palm Beach

The city of West Palm Beach is celebratin­g the 25th year of its green market this year. It will take place every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be 90 vendors offering a variety of products, including fresh produce, exotic plants and flowers, herbs and spices, baked goods, gourmet and specialty foods, coffee and teas and more. In addition to the local vendors, it also features live music, unlimited mimosas for $10 and green space and seating Due to constructi­on, the market will initially take place along Flagler Drive.
