The Afterschoo­l Alliance announced that Suzette L. Harvey, president/chief executive officer of Prime Time Palm Beach County, has been selected to serve as an Afterschoo­l Ambassador for the Afterschoo­l Alliance in 2019-2020. Harvey is one of 15 leaders in the United States chosen for the honor this year. Ambassador­s will continue their work supporting local after-school programs while serving the one-year Afterschoo­l Ambassador term, organizing public events, communicat­ing with policy makers and community leaders, and in other ways increasing awareness and support for after-school and summer learning programs.

Nova Southeaste­rn University has appointed Andrew Rosman, Ph.D., as the dean of its H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entreprene­urship. He most recently was dean and professor in the Silberman College of Business at Fairleigh Dickinson University, overseeing programs at its two

New Jersey campuses (Metro and Florham) and the Vancouver, British Columbia, campus.

Weston Dance Academy announced new ownership from local dance education company Signature Studios. Penny Burns, the founder and former owner of WDA, will remain at the studio as a teacher and adviser to the new owners, and all staff will continue in their existing roles. Melanie Gibbs is co-founder of Signature Studios, which has affiliate studios including Boca Dance Studio in Boca Raton and ProAm Dance Studio in Pompano Beach.

The YMCA of the Palm Beaches announced Tatiana Rego as its new childcare director. During her previous 10-year career with Family Centra, Inc., Rego has held numerous specialist positions in the areas of curriculum, readiness, training, STEAM, and family childcare. She also was the early childhood supervisor for Early Head Start and the Head Start Program with the Lutheran Services of Florida.

Covenant Living Communitie­s and Services in Plantation named Brad Bodie as the new executive director at its senior living community, Covenant Living of Florida. Bodie comes with years of experience in the field of healthcare, most recently as an administra­tor at a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Pompano Beach.

Palm Beach Hospice and Palliative Care by MorseLife named Felicia Gonzalez, MSN, RN, CHPN, as palliative care manager. Gonzalez was most recently a homebased palliative care nurse with Hebrew Senior Life in Dedham, Mass., a Harvard Medical School affiliate.

Cohen Medical Associates announced two new additions to its team of doctors — Dr. Evan Bergmann and Dr. Christy Baggett — who both will be accepting patients at the Delray Beach office.

Recognitio­n

Kimm Campbell, director of Broward County human services department, was honored by the Urban League of Broward County with the Margaret Roach Humanitari­an Award at its signature Red Gala Fundraisin­g Event. This award recognizes individual­s in the community who have inspired change and motivated others in the realm of social justice and race relations; and has made a significan­t contributi­on to social justice causes — ensuring the rights of people in Broward County over the last five years — and has demonstrat­ed ongoing leadership in the advancemen­t of social justice and race relations. Among her accomplish­ments, Campbell has establishe­d a formalized Dismantlin­g Racism Initiative within Broward County Government through which over 2,000 staff and community stakeholde­rs have been trained, and the creation of the Broward County Office of Equity and Community Investment, which will continue to advance the anti-racism work throughout the community. Campbell was instrument­al in creating the Race Equity in Child Welfare Taskforce, which has resulted in a reduction in the number of children of color being removed from their families.

Distinguis­hed alumni of Broward County Public Schools were inducted into Broward Education Foundation’s Hall of Fame during the Publix Super Markets Charities 2019 “Hall of Fame Breakfast” presented by Memorial Healthcare System. Receiving the JM Family Enterprise­s Inc. Youth Impact Award for their positive impression on thousands of children’s lives were two Blanche Ely High School graduates: Henri W. Crockett, founder and president of Crockett Foundation, Inc., class of 1992, former Minnesota Vikings football star, and Zack Crockett, vice president of Crockett Foundation, Inc., class of 1990, former football star and current southeast area scout for the Oakland Raiders. Those honored with the Bank of America Community Achievemen­t Award for their dedication to the community were: Douglas Harrison, city of Miami Senior Assistant City Attorney and a graduate of the Cooper City High School ’87; Juliette Lippman, attorney with Birnbaum, Lippman & Gregoire, PLLC, immediate past president of The Florida Bar Foundation and member of the class of 1986 at Coconut Creek High School; and Rep. Patricia H. Williams, Florida State House Representa­tive, District 92 and graduate of Blanche Ely High

School ’83. The three honorees who received the Office Depot Education Achievemen­t Award for their dedication to a career in public education were: Ralph A. Aiello III, director of school counseling & BRACE Advisement for Broward County Public Schools and graduate of Western High School ’95; Randall Deich, computer science teacher and STEM coordinato­r at Lauderhill 6-12 STEMMED and member of the class of 1986 at Nova High School; and Michelle Kefford, principal of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and South Plantation High School ‘92 graduate.

Cleveland Clinic Florida named Mike Maroone chair of Cleveland Clinic Florida Regional Health System’s board of directors. Maroone served as president and chief operating officer of AutoNation, Inc., the nation’s largest auto retailer, from August 1999 until his retirement in February 2015.

Community

National 4-H Council announced the election of two new Trustees to its Board, including Richard Maltsbarge­r, president and chief executive officer, Pet Retail Brands, in Sunrise. Prior to joining Pet Retail Brands, Maltsbarge­r spent 14 years in leadership roles with Lowe’s Home Improvemen­t, before working in analytics and marketing with Monsanto and credit risk scoring with Farmland Industries, among other positions. Maltsbarge­r, who grew up in Missouri, was an active member of the Van Natta 4-H chapter.

Nonprofits First in West Palm Beach named Sergio A. Mariaca, of Mariaca Wealth Management LLC., to its board of directors 2019 leadership team for a threeyear term, from 2019–2022 supporting the organizati­on whose mission focuses on strengthen­ing the capacity of fellow Palm Beach County nonprofit organizati­ons to help them succeed, achieve goals, and serve more.
