UM lands 4-star DB Kinchens
The pipeline from Miami Northwestern to the University of Miami continues to strengthen.
The Hurricanes added their fifth commitment from the Northwestern Bulls in the 2021 recruiting class when four-star safety Kamren Kinchens announced his pledge to UM on Saturday afternoon.
Kinchens chose Miami over Auburn and Texas A&M. He also had LSU and Nebraska in a previous top five he released.
“It’s home,” Kinchens said of UM in a previous interview with the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “It’s got a good business option,
as far as the player likeness [bill] that’s about to be coming next year, and I just feel like I got a good relationship with [safeties coach Ephraim] Banda and the defensive staff.”
Kinchens is the nation’s 20th-ranked safety in the 2021 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
He joins high school teammates in tight end Kahlil Brantley, cornerback Tim Burns Jr., outside linebacker Ja’Corey Hammett and wide receiver Romello Brinson as Miami commitments this recruiting cycle.
Kinchens puts the Hurricanes’ class at 17 commitments. He is the first safety in the group after UM signed four in the 2020 class — Avantae Williams, Jalen Harrell, Keshawn Washington and Brian Balom.
