Team re-signs Rudock for the 3rd time

Tua’s illness is reason behind the QB move

The Miami Dolphins have re- signed veteran quarterback Jake Rudock — for the third time this season — due to concerns over Tua Tagovailoa’s illness.

Rudock, a former St. Thomas Aquinas High School standout, was signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad on Saturday.

Tagovailoa returned to practice on Friday after missing two days with a fever earlier thisweek. But Tagovailoa is considered questionable to play in Sunday’s home game against the Seattle Seahawks (3-0).

Tagovailoa’s illness was not related to COVID-19, the Dolphins have stressed since Wednesday. But there appears to be some concern about him spreading his illness among teammates.

Sinnett, a former San Diego standoutwhospent all of thisweek serving as the primary backup. It’s possible that he’ll be Miami’s backup in Sunday’s game if Tagovailoa isn’t active.

Sinnett, who wears Ryan Tannehill’s old jersey No. 17, has spent the past three weeks learning the offense.

“Reid has practiced well,” Dolphins coach Brian Flores said. “We’ve gone through all the contingency plans here, and obviously Reid is part of it.”

New NFL rules will allow the Dolphins to take Sinnett or Rudock into Sunday’s game without penalty because each team is able to carry four practice- squad players into a game.

Rudock, a former sixthround pick by the Detroit Lions in 2016, spent last season on Miami’s practice squad.

He played at Michigan after helping Aquinas win a state and national title in 2009.

To make room on the roster for Rudock, the Dolphins released cornerback JavarisDavis.
