STAFF PREDICTIONS
Latest line: Dolphins are favored by 9.5 points. Over/under: 47.
Dave Hyde, Sports Columnist (Season record: 2-3): Dolphins 35, Jets 10 TheJets are 0-5, last in the league in points scored, second-tolast in points surrendered, have a quarterback inSam Darnold that is sidelined with a shoulder injury, a coach inAdamGase on the firing block . . . and the Dolphins are coming offa good performance in San Francisco. This should be the easiest Dolphins gameof the year.
OmarKelly, Dolphins Columnist (Season record: 2-3): Dolphins 28, Jets 17 The Dolphins have a perfect opportunity to provide a kill shot toAdamGase, who is sitting on a smoldering hot seat because of the Jets’ 0-5 start. TheJets are circling the drain, and history shows once a teamquits on Gase there’s no turning back. Look for Ryan Fitzpatrick to dissect the Jets secondary.
SafidDeen, Dolphins Writer (Season record: 3-2): Dolphins 40, Jets 13 The Dolphins are clicking on offense, and the Jets are sputtering out of control as coachAdamGase’s future is in jeopardy after another disastrous start. It should be aDolphins blowout if Miami remains as poised as they’ve been against more formidable opponents this season. Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threwfor 350 yards against the 49ers and had a passer rating of 154.5— third highest in his career.
Kathy Laughlin, Sports Editor (Season record: 1-4): Dolphins 34, Jets 16
The danger here that Jets coachAdam Gase will be extramotivated to showup his old team, and theDolphins could be a little complacent after blowing out the 49ers lastweekend. That said, Ryan Fitzpatrick has theDolphins offense humming— at least the passing gameand his own rushing, and the defense is starting to click.
Keven Lerner, Assistant Sports Editor (Season record: 3-2): Dolphins 27, Jets 17 Thewoeful Jets are looking to avoid their first 0-6 start since 1996, when they opened 0-8 under Rich Kotite en route to a franchise-worst 1-15 finish. Joe Flacco will make his second straight start in place of injured quarterbackSam Darnold.
Steve Svekis, Assistant Sports Editor (Season record: 2-3): Dolphins 30, Jets 12
The Dolphins have hit the soft midsection of their schedule, and the hapless Jets roll into town. The Dolphins— despite a tepid run gameand going very conservative in the second half in Santa Clara— had their best all-around gamein the Brian Flores era. Getting to .500with the added bonus of vanquishing ex-coachAdam Gase to do it should be no problem.
