Former President Barack Obamais returning to South Florida on Monday to rally support for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Bid en.

The Biden campaign, which limits attendance at events because of the pandemic, has not announced details about the event.

Obama last campaigned last Saturday in South Florida for his former vice president, in Miami-Dade County. He took shots at President Donald Trump at a drive-in rally, comparing Trump’s behavior in the White House to “Florida man.”

“Florida man wouldn’t even do this stuff,” Obama said. “Why we are accepting it from the president of the United States? It’s not normal behavior.”

Both campaigns are showering attention on South Florida ahead of Tuesday’s election. Trump will hold a late-night rally at 11:30 p.m. Sunday at Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport, an apparent violation of Miami-Dade County’s midnight curfew intended to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Biden’s running- mate Kamala Harris rallied supporters Saturday in Broward, Palm Beach and

Miami-Dade counties.

The South Florida visits the importance both campaigns are placing on the region, which has the largest number of Democratic voters in Florida. With its enormous Democratic advantage, there’s no doubt Biden will win the state’s second most populous county, but he needs to get a high as margin as possible over the president to win statewide.

But the Trump campaign is trying to mitigate those numbers by appealing to the Cubans in Miami, where Trump has maintained strong support even though the greater Latino voting bloc is more mixed in its backing for the candidates.

The Biden and Trump campaigns are also trying to widen the apparently very close margin between the candidates in the highly-sought state. Florida is the largest battleground state that could go for either candidate, awarding 29 of the 270 votes needed to win the presidency. Tampa is an anchor of the Interstate 4 corridor, the swing territory that runs through the central part of the state.
