Howcan you restore soul to a soulless nation?

-

I am heart sick about President Trump’s unequivocal win in Florida. In 2012, my husband and I canvassed for Barack Obama and phone banked on Election Day. We saw the state’s hue shift from pinkish-red to lavender and ultimately to blue. We sat with a friend in Boynton Beach on election night 2012 to watch the results, rejoicing when Florida went for President O ba ma.

We thought 2016 was an abhorrent and aberrant mistake. We were wrong.

I had thought the current administration’ s cruel policies towards immigrants and refugees, including separating small children and babies from their parents, as well as other policies that under mine progress on so many fronts would have been decisively rejected. That Trump could pick up evenmore votes than he did in 2016 leaves me in despair at what our country has become.

Joe Biden campaigned, in part, to restore the soul of our nation. This election makes me wonder if there’s an American soul left to save.
