Habitat for Humanity helps fulfill families’ dreams of homeownership
By Brett Shweky
Continuing to provide low-income families with affordable homes, Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County once again fulfilled the dreams of homeownership for two families in Boynton Beach.
Handing house keys to the Greta Ceasar and Reginald Moss families just before Thanksgiving, the nonprofit based in Delray Beach managed to carry on with its goal of improving housing affordability despite the challenges presented by COVID-19.
Employed in Nutritional Services at Delray Medical Center for 18 years, Moss is a single father of five children and was a dedicated family caregiver to two ailing aunts.
Ceasar, a two-time cancer survivor, is a Palm Tran employee and the single mother of her son Marcus, who was born with congenital disorders.
Located within the Heart of Boynton district and the Poinciana Gardens neighborhood, the city and Community Redevelopment Agency’s Model Block project will consist of 10 new for-sale single-family homes.
With three more Habitat homes on the block
currently under construction, Habitat for Humanity will facilitate zero-interest mortgages for qualifying families.
“Everyone involved in the build, completion and dedication of these homes certainly felt exceptionally blessed, especially as we ring in the holiday season,” Habitat for Humanity South Palm Beach County CEO and President Randy Nobles said in a statement.
“Each Habitat Partner family has their own story of struggle — albeit health or financial — or both, and
a long journey of personal setbacks and disappointments, but they prevailed by staying focused in their resiliency to make life better for their children and grandchildren. Both are first-time homebuyers.”
Dependent on volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations, Habitat for Humanity worked with Sklar Furnishing, Publix Super Market Charities, the city of Boynton Beach and Boynton Beach CRA.
