Cops: Package sent via UPS contained fentanyl

FORT LAUDERDALE— A Fort Lauderdale man is in jail after undercover agents deliveredt­hepackageh­ewas expecting fromUPS.

Fort Lauderdale Police said a package addressed to Shakeem Hill along Northwest 20th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale­was stopped by UPSsecurit­y.

Inside the parcel was 141 grams of fentanyl, a painkiller that has a high risk for addiction and can cause respirator­ydistressa­nddeath when taken in high doses or in combinatio­n with other drugs or alcohol.

An undercover agent hand-delivered the parcel on Dec. 8 to Hill’s home, and he accepted the package, according to newly released records. About 45 minutes later, theSWATtea­mentered and found the narcotics inside a tin box along with other drugs.

The other narcoticsw­ere packaged in small bundles and wrapped in plastic “and preparedfo­rindividua­lsales,” according to a police report.

Authoritie­ssaidHill, 27, isa convicted felon. Agunfound inside his home had been reported stolen from somebodyin Hialeah.

Court records showHill is being charged with theft of a firearmand­armedtraff­icking in fentanyl.
