Western High School grad gets college tuition help from Dr Pepper
For the past 12 years, the Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway has helped students across the country make their college dreams a reality by donating thousands of dollars in tuition to help young adults advance their academic careers.
Western High School graduate and University of North Florida freshman Hannah Jarvis, along with seven other students, are the recipients of the annual giveaway despite a year consumed by the COVID19 pandemic.
Jarvis, who earned second place and $50,000 in tuition, was awarded her prize in a virtual giveaway after being selected from thousands of student applications.
“I heard about the Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway from my aunt, I believe she found it on Facebook,” said Jarvis, 18. “I heard that they were giving away $2 million this year and I just thought that was amazing. I thought to myself, ‘I might as well give it a shot to enter. There’s no harm in entering it.’ Before I knew it, I was a finalist for the tuition
giveaway.
“I was very thankful to receive the tuition that they gave me because my parents have been going through a lot especially with COVID and not getting as much business as they hoped,” said Jarvis, who plans on pursuing a career in American Sign Language interpretation. “So receiving this has relieved a lot of stress for us.”
Meeting the requirements to enter the giveaway, Jarvis, of Sunrise, was selected based on her video submission describing how free tuition will help achieve her future goals.
Doubling the amount of free tuition being awarded this year to $2 million, the program has awarded over $10 million to college students in partnership with Scholarship America, which works directly with students, parents, colleges, businesses and communities to help students fulfill their college dreams.
